Dear Mission Partner,
I am pleased to announce that through God’s providence Central Union Mission’s board of directors has selected Joseph J. Mettimano to be our new executive director. We believe his proven leadership skills, non-profit experience and heart for the homeless and people of God make him uniquely qualified for the role. Retired executive director David Treadwell will serve as a special advisor to Mettimano during the transition, as well as a continued resource and supporter of the Mission in an emeritus role. August 6th is Mr. Mettimano’s first day in his new role.
Mr. Mettimano has 28 years of nonprofit management experience working with organizations such as Global Impact, Prison Fellowship, World Vision, UNICEF USA and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. With these and other organizations, he served causes as varied as global poverty, prisoner transformation, malaria, child trafficking, and the environment through his advocacy, communications, fundraising and marketing roles.
His personal involvement with the homeless community spans over 20 years, including serving for the past six years as a pastor on the streets in Washington, DC, where he preaches every Wednesday night and leads a weekly outreach with food distribution and a time of fellowship. He is an associate pastor and elder at The Orchard Church, in Arlington, VA. He has lived in the Washington, DC, area for the past 28 years and currently resides in Herndon, VA, with his wife Cam-Vien and daughter Ella.
I’d like to invite you to an Open House to welcome Mr. Mettimano to the Mission on Friday, September 14, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. (Please rsvp here for the Open House.) Also, please consider joining us on September 20 or November 2 for our free Taste of the Mission luncheons or dinners, where you can meet our new executive director, enjoy a meal and tour our shelter facility. (Please rsvp here for a Taste of the Mission event.) I also invite you to contact me with any of your questions at RWright@missiondc.org.
As the Mission enters its 135th year of service in the District, we are excited to see the energy and innovation that Joe will bring as he leads Central Union Mission. We expect to accelerate the service and engagement the Mission provides to the poor and homeless people in the nation’s capital. Please join us in supporting Joe with your prayers as we work together so that no one in DC lives hungry and homeless.
