Convoy of Hope to Donate Food in DC

Washington, DC—May 1, 2020—Thanks to the sponsorship of Passion City Church DC, Convoy of Hope, an international relief organization, is bringing nonperishable food to donate to local poverty relief organizations on Friday, May 1, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Central Union Mission’s food pantry, the Family Ministry Center, was invited to participate and receive 3,000 pounds of food. The Convoy of Hope food distribution will take place in the RFK Stadium parking lot. Appropriately masked volunteers will help load food into local trucks from the Convoy of Hope semi truck.

According to Mission President & CEO Joe Mettimano, “Passion City Church DC has been a faithful friend to Central Union Mission as well as other DC charities. We’re grateful they included us in this generous Convoy of Hope event.”

“Our Family Ministry Center is serving at least 50% more families than usual during this pandemic. Many families in our community have experienced lay-offs, and the Family Ministry Center is what helps make ends meet. Through the FMC’s donated groceries and produce, parents can still feed their children nutritious food while saving their wages to pay bills. This Convoy of Hope is true to its name, and we thank Passion City Church DC for bringing them here.”

The distribution will take place at RFK Stadium Parking Lot 7 from 12 pm to 2 pm on Friday, May 1, 2020. Photos and interviews are available. Please contact Deborah Chambers at 202-534-9965 or dchambers@missiondc.org for more information.
