DC Area Chefs Team Up to Raise Funds
for #onemillionmeals

Foodie fundraiser to benefit DC’s homeless

 

Washington, DC—September 26th—Tonight Central Union Mission celebrates 135 years of caring for DC’s homeless by hosting HeArt & Sole, a food-centric event that will raise funds to provide #onemillionmeals for the area’s neediest residents. Chef Rock Harper, winner of Hell’s Kitchen Season Three, and Executive Pastry Chef Padua Player aka SugaChef serve as event co-chairs and have assembled a diverse team of 27 chefs to prepare a wide variety of tastings. SugaChef has been praised for his work by Vice President Biden, featured on WE TV’s Platinum Weddings and was a competitor on Food Network’s Sweet Genius and Holiday Baking Championship. The VIP event begins at 6:00 pm with Chef Rock’s HeArt & Sole Battle featuring Chef Marcelle Afram of Bluejacket, Chef Amy Brandwein of Centrolina, Chef Andrew Holden of Cedar Knoll, and Chef Jonathan Till of EveningStar Café and local celebrity sous chefs to prepare an improvisational dish. The panel of sous chefs and judges includes Sunni, Sunni and the City; Robyn Dixon, Real Housewives of Potomac; Poet Taylor, WPGC 95.5 FM; Chef Peter Chang, restaurateur; Chef Chris Kyler, Food Network celebrity; D.C. Washington, Nationals’ anthem singer; Tim Ebner, writer; Nevin Martell, writer; Rick Chessen, Rick Eats DC; Lori Gardner, Been There,Eaten That; and Mary Beth Albright, food anchor for The Washington Post.

The Mission will also present its first-ever Mission Possible Awards to several of DC’s most notable chefs for their local and global contributions

At the 7:00 pm main event, guests will enjoy all-you-can-eat tastings prepared by 27 chefs, all-you-can-drink specialty cocktails, live music by IVY LEAGUE, art galleries and glorious desserts, including SugaChef Padua Player’s Extreme Cakes Competition with Chef Taneka Weldon of Whimsy Cakes and Chef Kareem Queeman, aka Mr. Bake.

Expected to attend are HeArt & Sole’s Honorary Host Committee, including Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, U.S. House of Representatives; Senator Michael Brown, U.S. Shadow Senator; Congressman Anthony Brown, U.S. House of Representatives; Donnie Simpson, radio and television personality; Leon Harris, NBC news anchor and journalist; Lou Holder, sports broadcaster; Everett A.
