Homeless Folks Like Football, Too
Mission Plans “Souper Bowl” Party

Washington, DC—February 1, 2019—People experiencing homelessness will be enjoying the big game on Sunday at Central Union Mission thanks to the help of generous donors and volunteers. Super Bowl LIII and pre-game entertainment will be shown on TV screens in the Mission’s dining hall and day rooms starting at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 3.

The best part of the Super Bowl for many—the snacks—will continue all day long, thanks to Allison McGill, founder of Lazarus, who is providing game day necessities like soup, wings and hot dogs, as well as Lazarus server volunteers. Thanks also to Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated for donating 63 cases of assorted beverages for our guests’ refreshment.

According to Mission President and CEO Joe Mettimano, “The Mission likes celebrating the Super Bowl because we think it contributes a bit of normalcy for our guests experiencing homelessness. Providing dignity and camaraderie helps give them confidence they need to start transforming their lives through the Mission’s education and employment programs.

News media are invited to attend. RSVP requested. Please contact Deborah Chambers at 202-534-9965 or dchambers@missiondc.org for the schedule and other information.
