Operation Christmas Miracle
Brings the Holiday to Needy Children

Washington, DC—December 13, 2018—This weekend (Saturday, Dec. 15, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in Spanish and Sunday, Dec. 16, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm in English), Central Union Mission is distributing gifts during Operation Christmas Miracle at the Family Ministry Center (3194-B Bladensburg Rd., NE, Washington, DC 20018.) Operation Christmas Miracle is spreading the community’s spirit of generosity to DC children who might not have any other Christmas presents.

Giving Christmas gifts to needy children is a Central Union Mission tradition that goes back to at least 1925 with First Lady Grace Coolidge. In 2018, we’re grateful for our partnership with Toys For Tots, which is providing gifts for 800 children, as well as for our private donors who contributed the remaining gifts. Nearly 1,500 deserving children will be celebrating Christmas with Operation Christmas Miracle this year, enjoying a Christmas program, a visit with Santa and a bag of age-appropriate toys, books, clothes and games. The reason for the season, Jesus Christ, will be shared throughout.

According to Mission Executive Director Joe Mettimano, “Operation Christmas Miracle brings Christmas joy to struggling families in Washington, DC. With the contributions of our caring community, we can help children experience firsthand the kindness that they can model in their own lives. No child should be left out at Christmas.”

News media are invited to attend at any point. RSVP requested. Please contact Deborah Chambers for the schedule at 202-534-9965 or dchambers@missiondc.org for information.
