Families Living in Poverty to Receive Large Food Donation from Bushwick Kitchen

Washington, DC—October 21, 2021—Join Central Union Mission on Oct. 21, 2021, when Bushwick Kitchen distributes its plant-based pancake mix to over 100 families in Washington, DC, at the Family Ministry Center.

On average, Central Union Mission provides food for more than 4,000 people each month through its Family Ministry Center programs. This month, Bushwick Kitchen will contribute to the cause. In addition to the plant-based pancake mix, recipients will also receive groceries from local retailers who contribute to the Family Ministry Center’s weekly food distribution.

Access to affordable and healthy food options remains scarce for many low-income and poor residents throughout the nation. Bushwick Kitchen’s donation of a healthy and plant-based pancake mix is a positive step forward in the effort to not only feed the hungry, but to provide them with nutritious options, as well.

According to Mission President & CEO Joseph Mettimano, “We are seeing families coming to our Family Ministry Center who have never been to a food pantry before. The COVID-19 pandemic has made previously stable groups of people struggle with sudden food insecurity.”

One food pantry recipient, who requested to remain anonymous, said, “My family was hit hard when the pandemic started. My husband and I were the first to lose our jobs and we take care of both our parents…we still haven’t recovered. Thank God I am working now, but my husband is still unemployed, so every bit of help is important to us and we’re grateful.”

Bushwick Kitchen prides itself on helping the community and proudly supports initiatives and programs that empower and uplift those in need. CEO Daniel Doll says, “It’s an honor to support the life-changing work that Central Union Mission is doing for the community. Food scarcities and insecurities are an unfortunate reality we face, but working together, raising awareness and building support can make for impactful change and we’re grateful to be even a small part of that.”

Media are invited to the October 21 event. For interviews and photos with recipients, Central Union Mission staff and Bushwick Kitchen employees, please contact Deborah Chambers, VP, Development & Partnerships, at 202-534-9965 or dchambers@missiondc.org.
