Harold G. Sirrine, 1946

“This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”

Two years ago tomorrow a miracle was wrong in my life at Central Union Mission, the miracle of complete spiritual rebirth. Lonely and utterly defeated by liquor after twenty years, I had become one of the forgotten men of society. Despised and ridiculed, I had grown bitterly cynical and agnostic, desperately sick in body and mind; despondent, broke and homeless. Utterly weary of life itself, I turned to the rescue mission.

At Central Union Mission by the merciful grace of God, I was converted through the Lord Jesus Christ. My entire life and personality was immediately transformed. I was returned to sanity and sobriety, my health fully restored, and I was reunited with my beloved wide and family and other loved ones. My sainted mother in Connecticut, still living, thank God, was overjoyed that her years of prayers, at last, were answered.

These past two full years of a Christian life have been absolutely my happiest–and the most useful. The old desires of drinking and sin have been replaced by a greater and finer desire to serve my Lord and humbly to be of help in leading my fellow men back to God, especially alcoholics who, like myself, need God. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to Him, the Great Physician, who can heal our afflictions and solve our life-wrecking and heart-breaking problems.
