Washington, DC — Dec. 11, 2025 —For many experiencing homelessness, the holidays can be an especially difficult time. This Friday, Central Union Mission is offering a different kind of evening for them; one filled with dignity, community, and joy through its “Show Some Love” Christmas celebration for the 150+ men staying at its shelter.

From 4:00 to 7:00 pm, the Mission will transform its facility into a Christmas wonderland and provide guests with an evening of care and connection. The celebration includes:
  • Elegant Christmas dinner
  • Special Christmas movie screening
  • Haircuts, grooming, and pampering kits
  • A room overflowing with homemade desserts
  • Games, prizes, and gift bags packed with meaningful, personal items
  • ‘Men of Valor’ choir to sing Christmas songs

“This event restores something that homelessness tends to take away: the feeling of being seen, valued, and worthy of joy,” said Mission President & CEO, Joe Mettimano. “Our city is hurting. People are hurting. Show Some Love is one way we remind our neighbors that they are not forgotten.”

A Community Effort and an Invitation to Help
Members of the public are encouraged to join the Mission in making this night unforgettable by:
  • Sponsoring the event
  • Volunteering during Show Some Love
  • Dropping off homemade desserts
  • Donating gifts for 150 overnight guests

Media Invitation
Members of the media are invited to attend the event, capture the transformation of the shelter, and hear firsthand stories from guests, volunteers, and Mission leadership.

This is not just a holiday feature; it is a story of hope rising in one of the hardest seasons for some of the most forgotten people in our city.
