WALKATHON

2009 Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walkathon

Saturday, November 21 National Mall Washington, D.C.

Walkathon

This fall, Central Union Mission and hundreds of its friends will walk together in the annual Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walkathon. The walkathon brings thousands of people-companies, schools, community groups, and people of all ages-to the National Mall to raise awareness and funds for local organizations that shelter and serve the homeless. Last year, the walkathon raised $5.6 million dollars that benefited 64 organizations, including Central Union Mission. This year, the walkathon is a major part of our Campaign for Compassion to encourage greater public service for the less fortunate. Our goal is to raise $125,000-all of which will help provide free meals and warm beds for the homeless this winter.

Sponsorship and Volunteerism

Corporations, individuals and organizations can sponsor Central Union Mission's team. This year, we are asking sponsors to support us in two important ways: by committing sponsorship fees and by participating in the walkathon. Sponsors can recruit employees, members, families and friends to register and walk on our team. Walker registrations help raise additional incentive funds from Fannie Mae, and are a great way to build relationships, promote exercise and encourage community involvement. Other ways to make a difference are to host a fundraising event, special promotion, or pledge drive.

Community Walks

Schools, churches and community groups can participate by hosting their own walks on their property during regular operating hours. These walks (called mini-walks) are a great way to engage children in the Help the Homeless program, and can include presentations on homelessness and related issues. Contact us to schedule a program in your school, church, or local business. To discuss all the ways you can participate, please contact Deborah Chambers, Director of Development, at 202-745-7118 or via email at dchambers@misssiondc.org. *Event day banners and promotional materials for the Central Union Mission Walkathon team will include mention or logo acknowledgment of partners registered as of November 4, 2009.
