Volunteers / student interns are afforded all the rights and
responsibilities of paid employees with two major exceptions:
Volunteers/student interns do not receive compensation for
their services, and they do not have vested rights in the position
in which they are performing services.
The rights to which volunteers, student interns are entitled
are:
- The right to be treated as a co-worker, not just free
help.
- The right to be given a suitable assignment.
- The right to know as much about the organization as possible.
- The right to sound direction and guidance
- The right to be heard
- The right for recognition.
Volunteers:
- Must fill out volunteer contact information form
- Must attend orientation.
- Must fill out a registration form to volunteer for all
opportunities.
- Must call or email if they can’t keep their appointment.
- Must take their responsibilities seriously.
- Must respect the confidentiality of their work
Student Interns:
- Must keep their appointments.
- Must call in if their out sick.
- Must give two weeks for requested time off.
- Must take responsibilities seriously.
- Are expected to learn in detail their responsibilities
Must respect the confidentiality of their work.
- Volunteers/student
interns should always sign in and out at the front desk.
- Wear your volunteer/ intern badge at all times. Report
any loss of volunteer’s/student intern’s badge.
- Do not give or loan money to program men or overnight
guest; do not bring any contraband into the mission. Contraband
includes: drugs, alcohol, weapons.
- Volunteers/student interns are expected to dress in appropriate
attire nothing to tight, to short, to low cut, Do Not bring
pocket books or purses.
- The main line of communication is through the volunteer
coordinator.
Volunteers/student interns will be assigned a point of contact
person, who will provide guidelines and answer questions as
they arise in the course of providing services. The point of
contact person will develop tasks for the volunteer/student
intern on the desire and ability of the individual.
