Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Central Union Mission. Registration is required for ALL EVENTS. Please register online 2 weeks in advance for all general opportunities. When your registration is confirmed, an email confirmation will be sent to you one week prior to the event. Thank you.
We welcome families for special events with open arms; however, children under the age of 10 will need to be monitored by respective parents. Children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult for all volunteer positions.
Unless otherwise stated, events will take place at Central Union Mission's main building at 1350 R Street, NW - Washington, DC 20009.
Volunteer Opportunities
Food Depot
Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday: 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Work details: Checking in clients, sort, bag and distribute food.
Administrative Offices (especially needed during busy holiday season of October - December)
Monday - Friday: 9:00 am
Work Details: mailing, filing, answering phones, folding, and data entry, (knowledge of Microsoft Office and organizational skills a plus!)

Monday - Friday 6:00 am -7:00 am
Saturday & Sunday 6:45 am - 7:45 am
Lunch
Monday - Sunday 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Dinner
Monday - Sunday 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm (5 or fewer volunteers needed)
Building Cleaning
Monda - Sunday 8:00 am-10:00 am
Work Details: Wet mopping, sweeping, stripping and making of beds,
sanitize and deodorize bathrooms. (1-10 volunteers needed)
Building Maintenance
Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 4:30

Work Details: Plumbing, carpentry, filing, painting, data entry
Music Ministry
Monday - Saturday 6:15 pm - 7:15 pm;
Details: This opportunity is designed for small or large groups to give concerts & dramatic presentations.
2nd Wednesdays of every month 10:30 am - 12:30 pm Details: Open to pianists, guitarists, wind instruments, bands, and praise and worship groups.
*Tutor men in our Spiritual Transformation Program in reading, basic math, and basic computer skills. Must be available to meet with a student at least once a week, if not more, on an ongoing basis, preferably during the daytime hours.
