HOMELESSNESS IN THE NATION'S CAPITAL
  • Over the course of a year, as many as 15,000 people experience homelessness: Resource Link
  • Of the approximately 9,000 people who are homeless on any given day, half are women and children;
  • 2,500 persons live in public and private emergency shelters; 3,100 people reside in transitional shelters and housing;
  • Approximately 600 persons live on the streets in the downtown area.
