Distribution Center Starts New Worship Service

Distribution Center Worshipi ServiceOn March 14, the Central Union Mission Distribution Center presented its first noontime worship service for participants. Neighbors enjoyed the spiritual enrichment of Chaplain Ted Ross and hymn-singing as well as the physical nourishment of "shopping" for food, clothes and furniture.

According to Distribution Center Manager Jeff Tooles, "The Lord laid it on my heart to bring a ministry piece to our clients, the way Central Union Mission does with everything." He cleaned out a storage room filled with computer parts and put in a carpet, chairs and a podium. The Wednesday noon worship services are held twice monthly. If you would like to volunteer as a speaker or to offer special music, please contact Jeff Tooles at 202-MISSION, ext. 222.

Rising postage rates and disincentives for donors will make finances even tighter for shelters across the country, which are already stretched to record levels. Ms. Chambers met with DC Congresswoman Eleanor Norton's staff to present these concerns.
